What: Winter Festival 2020

SSB is currently reviewing all possibilities to present a “Winter Festival 2020”. Due to restrictions caused by the Covid 19 pandemic, many theaters are not available for the remainder of 2020. We will continue to entertain all options for a presentation by the students of Scottsdale School of Ballet, and will keep you updated on the latest.

Scottsdale School of Ballet presents 2 performances for the Winter, with performances sponsored by the Scottsdale Ballet Foundation.

For the 2019 Winter Festival SSB presented a World Premiere by Director Donald Dadey entitiled “Suite for Strings”. Set to the John Rutters score reflecting English folk dances, this will be a lively work,  choreographed on the SSB Pre-Professional levels. Past works have included “Exaltation of Angels”, “Water Dances”, “Celestial Wanderings” and many others to critical acclaim. This is always a wonderful way to start off the performance for your evening.

Then we traditionally present our version of “The Nutcracker Suite” which highlights all levels of the school in this ballet. In it, we feature an entertaining party scene that leads into a visually stunning “Snow Scene”. Then on to Act II, where the audience is treated to all of the favorite dances, Arabian Coffee, Chinese Tea, Spanish Chocolate, Marzipan Mirlitons, The Russian Dance, and the always charming Candy Canes. The ballet is capped off with a lively finale to set everyone off to an exciting holiday season. This is trulya wonderful show fort the entire family and we hope you make the Winter Festival a holiday tradition for you family.

Soiree de Ballet 2020

Below is a review of what SSB has done for past Spring Performances.

Scottsdale School of Ballet will once again present 2 performances for the “Soiree de Ballet 2020” at the Paradise Valley Community College Center For The Performing Arts, sponsored by the Scottsdale Ballet Foundation. In this performance we offer new Contemporary works by Kelsey Kroll and Rececca Boizelle and choreography by Julia Chacon for the Flamenco classes.

As always we present “The Ballet Class” which is an interesting overview of a classical ballet class and the progression of student through the various levels. Next we will present our original one-act ballet choreographed for the entire school. We have featured in the past such works as “The Enchanted Room”, “La Boutique Fantasque”, The Selfish Giant”, “The Seasons” and other to wonderful acclaim from the audience.

To finish the evening we have one of the many classics for our upper level students. We have presented in the past “Don Quixote Act II – Dream Scene”, “Le Corsaire”, La Bayadere Act II”, “The Sleeping Beauty Act III” and other beloved classics.
