Julia began Spanish Dance under Lydia Torea in Phoenix, AZ. She holds a BFA in dance and BS in anthropology from the University of New Mexico where she studied flamenco with Eva Encinias Sandoval and modern dance with Bill Evans. She later trained in Madrid, Spain at Amor de Dios with el Ciro, Belen Maya, Rafaela Carrasco, Manuel Reyes, et.al, and, most recently, in Seville, Spain with José Galván, Andres Peña, Yolanda Heredia, and others.
Julia has taught nationally, developed and co-developed six Spanish Dance curricula for use in New York, North Carolina, and New Mexico and was a featured presenter at the National Dance Education Organization, National Conference in 2010 (Tempe, AZ). Her teaching and her students were featured in Dance Studio Life Magazine that year.
She had 15 years in ballet training under Anne Snyman and Paul Koverman in Phoenix, AZ. She returned to the Valley in late 2013 and is excited to be back home. Julia has taught for many years now with SSB and we are always honored to have her teach Flamenco at our school.
